Microsoft 365 Copilot Announced

2023-03-16

GitHub Copilot was announced in 2021, officially released to market in 2022. Today, Microsoft 365 Copilot has been announced: a button in all your Office apps that gives you a plain textbox to describe in English what you want. The AI is incredible, and the integration across services is complete. PowerPoint > Copilot button > “Make a fun, colourful 10-slide presentation based on yesterday’s executive meeting” - it already has the meeting recorded and transcribed from your Teams schedule. It just does it. That’s the promise, and if you’ve played with ChatGPT, you know they can deliver. From this point forward, if you aren’t changing your workflows to incorporate direct AI assistance like this, you are RAPIDLY falling behind. This productivity boost is so extreme, even if you are dabbling, people a few steps ahead will be moving twice as fast. The awe you feel when you see this kind of AI spit out code, creative brainstorming, document summaries, etc. is unlike anything else. It’s not perfect but it’s close enough to change everything, and it’s getting better FAST. After a decade of touchscreen devices being the big breakthrough tech, this feels far bigger.
